Dykhuis, Kenneth J. Age 83 of Alto, born August 8, 1932, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, February 13, 2015. He was preceded in death by his parents John and Anna Dykhuis; sister Lois (Hess) DeJong; and children Kevin, Steven and Cynthia Mitchell. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years Elaine; children Sharon (Alonzo) Miller of Clarksville, Kenneth (Shirley) Dykhuis of Watauga, TX, Scott (fiancee Peggy Hall) of Belding, Jelaine (Mark) Smoes of Lowell and Kimberly (Gerald) Hale of Lowell; son-in-law John Mitchell of Lowell; 15 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and brother Roger (Virginia) Dykhuis of Kent City. Ken graduated from Lee High School, attended Calvin College until enlisting in the Air Force in 1951, studied Elect Fund and Sight Sys Mech. with Honorable Discharge in 1955 as S/SGT with Korean Service Medal (2 Bat. Stars), National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and United Nations Service Medal. He was a hard working man of great integrity, a man of faith, long-time attendee of First Baptist Church of Alto. He was dedicated to providing and taking care of his family. While working at Smith Industries as an electronics tech and Union Steward protecting the workers’ rights, he enjoyed working with his boys on ‘Ken’s Funny Farm’ raising beef cattle, hay, corn, and a large garden. He loved hunting, fishing, camping with family, his dogs and playing cribbage. Ken liked sharing stories: Do you worry? Why? If it’s worth worrying about it’s worth doing something about, if you can’t do anything about it, why worry about itWhen the price of feathers is up, down is up. A funeral service will be held Wednesday 12:00 p.m. First Baptist Church of Alto, 6015 Bancroft Ave. SE. Reverend Timothy Teall officiating. Visitation Tuesday from 4-7:00 p.m. at Roth-Gerst Chapel, 305 N. Hudson, Lowell MI and one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Interment Merriman Cemetery.
