McOMBER, ESTHER JEAN
Age 95, formerly of Spring Lake, Jean passed away Sunday, November 23, 2014. Esther Jean Bangsberg McOmber was born and grew up in LaCrosse, Wisconsin, maintaining ties with friends and family there. She is preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Laurence McOmber in 2005. She is survived by her children, Larry (Cherise) McOmber of Fairview, WY, Susan (Jack) Smith of East Grand Rapids, MI, Sallie (Bill) Ottow of Menasha, Wisconsin; grandchildren, Jessica (Brett) Burton, Amanda (Bruce) Hungerford, Justin (Clara) Smith, Betsy (Don) Meverden; great grandchildren, Drew, Kethry, Madelyn, and Avery. Jean graduated from Stout State University of Wisconsin with an AB degree, and she received her Master’s degree from Western Michigan University. She retired from Spring Lake High School in 1978 after teaching sewing enthusiastically for almost 20 years. Jean loved her family and her friends and was an active bridge player all of her life, enjoying her many groups. Jean was a volunteer with Girl Scouts of America and was a long time member of Episcopal Church of Grand Haven. A Memorial Gathering will be held at a later date. She loved to read and encouraged life long learning. Memorial contributions may be made to Spring Lake District Library, 123 E. Exchange Street, Spring Lake, MI 49456, where she was a member of the Friends of the Library for many years. Books and materials will be purchased in her memory about sewing and topics of interest.
