Stephen Wayne DeHaan

Steve, the only son of the late Gordon and Elizabeth DeHaan, was born and raised in the Grand Rapids area.  He received his bachelor’s degree from Aquinas College, resided for two years in Colorado, and then returned to the GR area to join his father’s realty firm, GW DeHaan and Associates.  Steve partnered with his dad until taking over when his father retired and his parents moved to Charlevoix, MI.   After buying a cottage on Lake Charlevoix, Steve and his four children enjoyed boating with Grandpa and Grandma, as well as jet-skiing in the summer and snowmobiling in the winter.  Important to Steve was his work while sitting on the board of Hope Network, where he was instrumental in the purchase of its properties. Steve thoroughly enjoyed the outdoors and seemed to share with its wild creatures a special rapport.  It was of great relief to Steve after his stroke to know that his beloved Australian shepherd Yuki was happily settled into a loving and secure home.

Steve is survived by his sons Matthew and Seth DeHaan (mother, Mary) and by Matthew’s wife Briana and granddaughter Ruby; by his son Jeremiah DeHaan and daughter Katerina Albertson (mother, Christa); and by his first wife and life-long friend Sue Liskey. Steve is also survived by his sisters Connie (Ken) Kutzleb and Julie (Gary) Theule, by his five nephews and a niece, and by many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Steve has chosen cremation; remembrances and condolences can be sent via the website of the O’Brien- Eggebeen-Gerst Funeral Home.  Family and friends are invited to A Celebration of Steve’s Life on April 28 at 1 PM at Shephards Grill and Tavern at 6246 28th St. in Grand Rapids, MI.
