Scott Alan Abel

Scott Alan Abel, aged 52, passed away Tuesday November 1, 2016 from complications of Multiple Sclerosis. He was surrounded by his loving family and will be greatly missed by his mother, Elaine Abel, brothers Rick (Deb) Abel, Terry (Barbara) Abel, Dave (LeeAnn) Abel, sisters Debbie (Val) Grossenbacher, Laurie (Joe) Baker, son Bradley (Heather) Abel, granddaughter Madison. Also, uncle Jerry (Ann) Gerloski, aunt Mary Kay (Dan) Daymon, uncle Jim (Ellen) VanDyke,and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Scott honorably served his country in the Army National Guard for six years.  Scott was preceded in death by his father Roger Abel, his aunts and uncle Marcia and Tom DeBoer and Carolyn VanDyke, grandparents Harold and Helen Gerloski, and Coral and Lela Abel. Prior to his 15 years with MS Scott had a love, like his father Roger, for golf and was proud of his two hole in ones! Visitation will be held at O’Brien-Eggebeen-Gerst Chapel, 3980 Cascade Rd., SE, Grand Rapids, 6-8:00 pm on Thursday, November 3rd with a prayer service on Friday, November 4th at 11:30 am at St. Paul the Apostle Church, 2750 Burton St. S.E., Grand Rapids, with Msgr. Ernest P. Schneider officiating. Family will meet with friends one hour before the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Scott Abel Memorial Fund payable to Gerst Funeral Home, 3980 Cascade Rd. S.E., Grand Rapids, MI 49546, to be used toward funeral expenses.
