Kathryn Louise Lyon, age 77 of Ludington, went home to Jesus on Sunday, August 31, 2014. She is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Richard; children, Mark (Tiffany) Lyon of Saratoga, CA, Susan (Steve) Merrill of Lowell, MI; grandchildren, Alexander and Jack Lyon, Aidan Roustan, Zachary and Mackenzie Merrill; sister, Donna J. (Glen) Murphy; and nieces and nephews. She was born on April 20, 1937 in Saginaw, MI to Glenn J. and Alberta C. Brown. Kathy graduated from Coleman High School in 1955 and went on to get her BA in music education and history from Michigan State University in 1959. She was married to Richard Chapman Lyon of Wyandotte, MI on April 9, 1960. She obtained her masters in secondary counseling from Michigan State in 1965. Dick and Kathy moved to Ludington in 1969. Kathy worked as a high school guidance counselor for Ludington High School from 1969 until her retirement in 1993. Besides her career, Kathy was an accomplished pianist and taught piano lessons out of her home. Funeral service will be held Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. at Cascade Christian Church, 2829 Thornapple River Dr. S.E., Grand Rapids. Rev. Jill Forton officiating. Visitation Tuesday 6-8:00 p.m. at O’Brien-Eggebeen-Gerst Funeral Home, 3980 Cascade Rd S.E., Grand Rapids and one hour prior to the service at the church.
