James F. Taber, age 87, passed away Saturday, October 18, 2014. Surviving is his wife of 59 years, Bette; daughter, Amy (Kevin) Turner; grandchildren, Andrew and Caroline Turner, all of Hong Kong; sister, Katy Quirk; nieces, nephews, and cousins, plus many very good friends. Jim was a South High Alumni, attended GRJC and Marietta College in Ohio. He spent two years in the Army and 40 years in sales with GR Steel and Supply (now Alro Steel). He played a major role in co-founding the South High Alumni Scholarship Program in 1995. Jim spent several years as a trustee with the GR Sports Hall of Fame and was a former member of Cascade Hills Country Club. In keeping with Jim’s wishes cremation has taken place. The family will receive friend and relatives Wednesday from 2-4:00 p.m. at O’Brien-Eggebeen-Gerst Chapel, 3980 Cascade Rd. S.E., Grand Rapids. Memorial Services will be held summer of 2015. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, 2944 Fuller N.E., Grand Rapids, MI 49505.
