We mourn the death of our dear mother, Virginia Mae Hoey Loftis, on May 26, 2023, at the age of 95. She was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Howard Gerard (Jerry) Loftis; her two sisters, Marianne Penny, and Therese Heft; brother-in-law, Robert C. Loftis; sister-in-law, Mary I. Loftis. She is survived by children, James (Phyllis), Patrick, Joseph (Patricia), Mary Beth, Maureen (Randy), and Kevin (Jane); 7 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Thomas P. Loftis (Mary Lou); and many nieces and nephews. Virginia had many friends and good neighbors throughout her life, especially from St. Francis Xavier Parish and Paris Ave. She was born and raised in Grand Rapids and attended Mount Mercy Academy, graduating from Catholic Central in 1945. It was there that she met Jerry, they married in 1948, and soon their family began to grow. After most of the children left the nest, Virginia ventured out for a job, and landed at Metropolitan Hospital on Boston Street at the Information desk, where she flourished for over 25 years. Many hospital visitors were greeted by her pretty smile. She enjoyed that job. In retirement, she remained in her home and enjoyed walking the neighborhood with her favorite dog, Buddy, and doing yard work, sewing and some traveling. Notre Dame football was always on tv in the fall. Big ND fan! Virginia was the family’s anchor. She will truly be missed by family and all who were close to her. May her memory be a blessing. A private family service and burial took place on June 2, 2023, at St. Mary Church in Marne, MI. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her honor to Humane Society of West Michigan, 3077 Wilson Dr NW, Grand Rapids, MI 49534 or charity of your choice.
