Velta M. Mezulis Lapins, age 94, of Grand Rapids passed away on Saturday, July 7, 2018. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Valentins Mezulis and Laimonis Lapins. Velta is survived by her daughter, Inta (Dr. Harry) Eckerson; sister, Skaidrite Rozentals; grandchildren Mara (Dainis) Butners and Peter Eckerson; as well as other relatives in Latvia. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 6, 2018, at the Latvian Memorial Park, Catskill Mountains, Elka Park, NY. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Velta’s name to the Latvian Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1780 Knapp St NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49505 or Latvian Biedriba/Association, 504 Grand Ave NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49503.
