Stephen Kirkpatrick DeVries, age 53 of Caledonia, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, February 8, 2022. He was preceded in death by his fathers, Larry DeVries, Bart Atkins; and brother, Scott DeVries. Stephen is survived by his wife of 30 years, Ronda DeVries; children, Nathan (Taylor) DeVries, Sarah (Sam Denman) DeVries; mother, Roberta Atkins; mom, Carolyn (John Paalman) DeVries; in-laws, Ron (Sharon) Bailey; sisters, Brenda (Mark) Plants, Kimberly (Dave) Rademaker, Sherry (Brandon) Pennington; brother, Craig (Cecy) Bailey; and many nieces and nephews. Stephen graduated from Caledonia High School and Western Michigan University with a master’s degree. He loved being the announcer for his kids sports and dance recitals. Stephen also enjoyed, playing golf and basketball with his buddies. He was an avid reader of comic books and all things Sci-Fi. Stephen was a great friend, husband, and father. He loved his children and was happy to brag about their accomplishments. While always kindhearted, Steve was happy to take the opposing view of any topic. Visitation will be Monday, February 14, 2022, from 6-8 pm at O’Brien-Eggebeen-Gerst Chapel, 3980 Cascade Rd. SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49546. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 15, 2022, 11:00 am at Cornerstone Church, 1675 84th St SE, Caledonia, MI 49316 with visitation one-hour prior. Rev. Ken Nash officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to American Diabetes Association, 1550 E. Beltline S.E., Suite 250, Grand Rapids, MI 49506. As Steve would say “have fun storming the castle” and “live long and prosper”.
