Sister Lynne Hansen

Hansen, OP, Sister Lynne of Grand Rapids (born Patricia Jean Hansen in Ludington, MI) died on January 14, 2020. She was 76 years old and a Dominican Sister for 55 years. Sister Lynne earned a B.A. in Social Sciences and M.A. in Religious Studies from Aquinas College. Sister Lynne taught throughout Michigan including St. Stephen, Grand Rapids; SS. Peter & Paul, Saginaw; St. Alfred, Taylor; St. Basil, South Haven; Beaver Island; and St. Thomas, Grand Rapids. “My children learned to read, write, add and subtract, tie their shoes, get along with each other and to know that God loved them no matter what happened.” After her teaching years, Sister Lynne volunteered her services on campus as a receptionist and as a driver/companion for the Sisters; and off campus, as a clinical technologist at Kent County Health Department and in the supplemental nutrition program known as WIC. Most recently she was a greeter at Versiti Blood Center where she welcomed and assisted blood donors. Sister Lynne enjoyed nature’s gifts in all forms and was especially drawn to the care of cats, happily caring for abandoned ones at Crash’s Landing where she was a greatly appreciated volunteer.  Sister Lynne is survived by her sister Carol Lomonaco of Wyoming, Michigan; her brother David (Letty) Hansen of Wetumpka, Alabama; nieces, nephews, many friends and a loving community. Sister Lynne will repose at Dominican Chapel/Marywood, 2025 Fulton Street East, with visitation on Friday, February 14 from 6:00-7:00 pm followed by a Remembering Service at 7:00 pm.  A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, February 15 at 11:00 am at Dominican Chapel /Marywood. Burial will be at Resurrection Cemetery. Memorials in Sister Lynne Hansen’s name may be made to the Grand Rapids Dominican Sisters

  1. Such fond memories of Patsy, as we knew her. We were classmates at Longfellow Elem School, and we lived two doors from each other, on North Rowe Street in Ludington. Lots of fun adventures, especially looking at the stars as it got dark at night. Rest in Peace Patsy!
