S.John Holwerda, age 87 peacefully passed at his home on Murray Lake, Lowell, Michigan, entering into eternal life on May 3, 2015. John was a graduate of Godwin Heights High School, veteran of Korea and worked 37 years at General Motors, where he retired as an electrical supervisor. He continued his ambition as an electrician working several years at Litcher (Cresent) Electric and spent countless days and nights for anyone who needed his assistance. John valued hard work, and enjoyed others with similar ambitions. John was a Mason and life member of the Scottish Rite N.M.J., USA. As a Shriner he gave tirelessly to benefit those in his community. John was especially passionate about serving children and those who are hungry. John’s hobbies were many. A life member of Madison Square Sportman’s Club, John was regularly found shooting skeet & trap and playing cribbage with friends and family. A great teacher, he enjoyed games, a good puzzle, and encouraged great sportsmanship. An avid outdoorsman, John made an annual trip to Canada’s “Fish Camp,” and spent much time at the cabin with the boys and his dog. At day’s end, John could be found reading a book of American poetry or the Bible. He traveled around the world with his books, fancied the imaginary escapes. John raised a loving family, and is survived by his wife Dorothy A. (Vincent) “The Sunshine of his Life.” Daughters: Margaret E. Lampen(Michael V. DVM) of Jones, MI, Cathleen Cooley-Wedow (Dale) of Traverse City, MI. Judith L. Hall (Steven M. DDS) of Jenison, MI. Cynthia S. Begerow of Ada, MI. His son John S. Holwerda (Nancy) of Grand Rapids, MI. Grandchildren: Joshua V.(Sarah) Lampen, Cameron P. Lampen, Charles S. Hall, Chelsey L. Hall, Alison M. Hall, Andrew J. Hall, Dale J . Begerow (Nikki), James D. Begerow, Travis J. Holwerda and Taylor H. Holwerda. Great Grandchildren: Xochitl Begerow, Jax J. Begerow and Ryleigh R. Begerow, and numerous Nieces and Nephews. John was preceded in death by his Mother Elizabeth Holwerda (Haan). John has been buried at Oak Grove Cemetery.
