Robert “Bob” Hugh Shields

Robert “Bob” Hugh Shields, age 96 of Grand Rapids, passed away October 9, 2022. He was preceded in death by his parents, Helen & Hugh Shields; sister, Irene; brothers, Hugh, and Jack. Bob is survived by his wife of 67 years, Beverly (Loftus) Shields; and many special nieces and nephews and their families. Bob spent his career as the West Michigan manager for Lawyers Title Inc. Bob was a prolific reader of history as well as an award-winning bowler. He served his community by providing communion to the sick and supporting Meals on Wheels with a west side route for many years. Bob was a proud veteran of the United States Army, serving as a Mortar Man during WWII, and was decorated with 2 Bronze Stars. Visitation will be held from 5-7 on Wednesday, October 12, 2022, at O’Brien-Eggebeen-Gerst Chapel, 3980 Cascade Road SE, Grand Rapids, Michigan 49546, with a rosary at 7 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, October 13, 2022, at St. Stephen Catholic Church, 750 Gladstone Dr. SE, East Grand Rapids, Michigan 49506, with visitation one hour prior. Rev. Scott Nolan presiding. Entombment Resurrection Mausoleum. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Stephen Parish.
