Paul Laurence Mulvihill

Paul Laurence (“Larry”) Mulvihill, age 75 of Grand Rapids, passed away Wednesday, September 24, 2014. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mary; children, Paul (Mary Rose) Mulvihill, Tim Mulvihill, Dennis (Melissa) Mulvihill, Coleen (Eric) Carlson; grandchildren, Shane (Kara), Grace, Brogan, and Eamon Mulvihill; Aiden, Reese, Quinn, Casey, and Teagan Carlson. Larry graduated from East Grand Rapids High School (’57) John Carroll University (BA, ’61) and Marquette University (JD, ’64). He was a lawyer for 50 years and spent the majority of his career with Smith, Haughey, Rice and Roegge in Grand Rapids. Larry was also a resident of Ferrysburg, and served on the Ferrysburg City Council for 8 years and served a stint as Mayor pro tempore. An avid Notre Dame fan, Larry had an affinity for just about everything Irish or green and always had a large shamrock painted on his garage door. Larry was also a devoted member of AA for 27 years, and enjoyed helping those who struggled with addiction. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, September 29, 2014, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Robert of Newminster, 6477 Ada Dr., Ada., Rev. Leonard Sudlik presiding. Interment at Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation Sunday, September 28, 2014, 4-6:00 p.m. at O’Brien-Eggebeen-Gerst Chapel, 3980 Cascade Rd., Grand Rapids, with the vigil (rosary) starting at 4:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to support either: 1) North Alano Club, c/o Kevin O’Neal, 1020 College Ave NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49503; or 2) the Sarcoidosis Research Fund at the University of Michigan Medical Center.
