ASKINS – Laurence Leo Askins age 79 of Grand Rapids passed away April 12 2009. He was preceded in death by his parents Glenn and Marie Askins; brothers Bernard Joseph Thomas and Rev. Robert Askins; sister Josephine Snook. He is survived by his loving family who came first in his life; wife of 58 years Madelyn; children Linda (Michael) Walker Laurie (Thomas) Krebill Leslie (Robert) Rosenbach Lisa (Melvin) Shepherd Louise Stormzand Lizabeth (Kevin) Fegan Margaret (Tony) Krenselewski Maureen (Michael) Finn Matthew Askins; son-in-law Michael Stormzand; 21 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Faith family and friends were the most important things to Larry. He was the owner of Briggs Electric for over 30 years a member of the Navy serving on the USS Piper Submarine from 1948-1952 a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Catholic Central Hall of Fame as well as an active parishioner at St. Thomas of the Apostle Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered 10:30 AM at St. Thomas the Apostle Church 1449 Wilcox Park Dr. SE Rev. James A. Chelich presiding. Interment Resurrection Cemetery. Vigil service 8:30 PM. Visitation 2-4 and 6-9 PM at the OBrien-Eggebeen-Gerst Chapel 3980 Cascade Rd., SE. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the St. Thomas Food Bank.
