Laurence E. Larson, age 79 of Grand Rapids, passed away at home Monday, September 29, 2014. He was preceded in death by his brother, James. He is survived by his wife Kathlyn; children, Jeff (Cindy) Larson, Laurie (Brent) Larson-Doornbos, Christy (Brian) Hudgens, Cindy Alferink; brother, Thomas (Karen) Larson; sister-in-law, Joan Larson, grandchildren, Taylor and Madison Larson, Peter and Andrew Groggel, Leann (Jacob) Lahmann, Hannah and Sean Hudgens; two great grandchildren expected; also nieces and nephews. Larry lived a full life. He enjoyed sunsets, donuts, birds, grandkids, and classic cars. He served in the US Navy as an instructor of torpedo crews, graduated from Kent State University. He was an architect and college instructor. He had a passion for art that showed in his many paintings, and enjoyed collecting and building scale model trains, and was a great mechanic. The family would like to thank the staff at Spectrum Health Hospice for their wonderful care given to Larry. A Celebration of Larry’s life will be held Friday 12:00 p.m. at O’Brien-Eggebeen-Gerst Chapel, 3980 Cascade Rd. S.E., Grand Rapids. Rev. Arlan TenClay officiating. The family will greet friends and relatives one hour prior to the service in the chapel.
