Ryan, John McIntosh, age 81, of Grand Rapids, died peacefully Nov. 12, 2014, surrounded by his family. Born in Detroit Dec. 8, 1932, John was a Korean War veteran and graduated from Providence College, R.I., through the GI Bill. He is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Patricia (nee Friel); loving children, Sheila (Dan) McAfee, Eileen, Mary, John (Jeannie), Jeanne, and Patrick and fiance, Mary McBride; and adoring grandchildren, Dominic, Conor, Declan and Ellie. He will be missed by extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Flora; his brother, James; and his sisters, Ellen and Margaret (Andrew) McGuire. John’s vibrant personality welcomed all who knew him, and he showed his faith and trust in God through all aspects of parish life, particularly the choir, Bible study groups, and the Cursillo movement. John’s life will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 15 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 1935 Plymouth Ave. S.E., Grand Rapids, with Fr. Troy Nevins officiating. Visitation will be held Friday from 2-4:00 p.m. and 6-8:00 p.m., with a vigil at 6:00 p.m. at O’Brien-Eggebeen-Gerst Chapel, 3980 Cascade Rd. S.E., Grand Rapids.
