James Vincent Kearns

age 66 of Grand Rapids, passed away Sunday, October 26, 2014 on a beautiful fall day. He was preceded in death by his father James J. Kearns; “aunt” Joan; and brother-in-law, Luis. He is survived by his wife, Deb; daughter, Samantha; mother, Gloria; sister, Karen; brothers, Stephen (Maureen), Robert; and several nieces and nephews. His cantankerous spirit will be sorely missed by all. Jim served in the United States Marine Corps. He had a successful business career working 31 years with IBM. He spent his “retirement” helping small business owners achieve success by developing their business plan with SCORE and other nonprofit organizations. He also made sure all abided by the maritime laws on Lake Michigan thru his volunteer work with the US Coast Guard Auxiliary and GR Power Squadron. Single malt scotch, a good cigar and the open seas were among his many joys. Jim’s family will meet with friends and relatives Thursday 2-4 p.m. at O’Brien-Eggebeen-Gerst Chapel, 3980 Cascade Rd. S.E., Grand Rapids. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society, 129 Jefferson Ave. S.E., Grand Rapids, MI 49503
