ELAINE V. HORNING

Elaine V. Horning, age 82 of Grand Rapids, passed away Sunday, March 13, 2016. She was preceded in death by her husband Thomas Horning, parents Helen and Henry Vesotsky and siblings Louis Vesotsky and Judith Rose. Born in Long Island, New York, she graduated from Grand Rapids Central High School at age 16 and attended the University of Michigan. After marrying her high school sweetheart, Tom, they moved from Ann Arbor Michigan to Grand Rapids to raise a family. Elaine volunteered for Kids’ Food Basket, God’s Kitchen and Salvation Army from which she earned a “Volunteer of the Year” award. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, bridge and cheering for her beloved Wolverines. Many happy hours were spent with family and friends at her Lake Michigan cottage. She is survived by her children Claire (Mike) Podein, Karen (Dave) Henneghan, Karl Horning, Beth (Tom) Barron and her dear grandchildren Peter and Lindsey Podein, David Podein, Katherine Podein, Patrick Henneghan, Laura Henneghan and Alex Horning, also brother-in-law Dr. David Horning. Visitation will be held Saturday March 19, 2016, 3-4:00 p.m. at O’Brien-Eggebeen-Gerst Chapel, 3980 Cascade Rd.
