Edward “Ned” Michael Smith Jr.

Edward “Ned” Smith, Jr., 59, died on Tuesday, September 27, 2022, at his home. Ned was passionate about his son Kennedy, animals, the underdogs in life, sports, and sport teams of all kinds. First and foremost, Ned cheered on his Buffalo Bills, Notre Dame, Lakers, and the Oakland A’s, back in the day. He was a big supporter of women’s sports as well. Ned was an intelligent, quick-witted, and compassionate person, with a great sense of humor, like his father and namesake. He graduated from Catholic Central High School and Aquinas College. In addition to son, Kennedy, he is survived by his former wife, Kim (Schooley) Smith; brothers, Tim (Cyndi), Matt (Sue); sister, Kathy (Brady), mother, Patricia Smith; nieces and nephews from both the Smith and Schooley families; former in-laws, Jack and Rosemary Schooley; and many other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his father, Ned Sr., a loss of which he never truly recovered. We cherish all the fun, funny and ridiculously hilarious times with Ned — our dad, brother, son, and friend.  When we gather in his memory, we hope to hear colorful stories and memories of good times with Ned. Visitation will from 4-7 PM on Friday, September 30, 2022, at O’Brien-Eggebeen-Gerst Chapel, 3980 Cascade Road SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49546.
