Douglas W. Johnston

JOHNSTON, DOUGLAS W, age 80 passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, March 4, 2015 after a brief battle with cancer. He was born June 11, 1934 in Detroit to Robert and Rebecca Johnston. He grew up in Detroit and graduated from McKenzie High School. He continued his education at Wayne State University. Douglas was President of Formax Manufacturing where he had been employed for over 46 years. He previously resided in Grosse Pointe Farms, MI and has lived in Grand Rapids since 2000. Douglas enjoyed reading and most of all spending time with his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years Carol; children, Betsy Johnston (Gary), Gordon (Mary) Johnston, Andrew (Mary) Johnston; and 5 grandchildren; Emily, Drew, Maggie, Erin and Anne. Funeral services will be held Friday 3-13-15 at 11:30 a.m. at O’Brien-Eggebeen-Gerst Chapel, 3980 Cascade Rd. S.E., Grand Rapids. Rev. Jen Porter of Westminster Presbyterian Church officiating. Visitation one hour prior to the service at the funeral home chapel.
