Our Recommended Resources for Navigating Grief

Grief is complex and often presents unexpected emotions shaped by an individual’s unique personal experiences and triggers. Hearing others’ stories, however, can remind us we are not alone and offers new perspectives, helping pave a path towards healing. At Gerst, we are committed to supporting families and loved ones at all stages of the grieving process by providing ongoing support and resources. We believe there is power when people are brave enough to share their experiences. Here are some of our recommended resources to help you navigate your grief journey.

Recommendation #1

Nora McInerny’s TED Talk, “We Don’t Move On From Grief. We Move Forward With It,” is a great listen that offers a new perspective on grief through honest storytelling. Mclnerny thoughtfully reframes grief by challenging her audience to rethink what “moving on” truly means. She shares how healing and pain can coexist, offering a compassionate and relatable perspective. Whether you’re in the midst of grief or supporting a loved one, her talk uses a new lens to encourage individuals to move forward feeling empowered.

Recommendation #2

Saski Christian wrote a thoughtful article, entitled “Transforming Grief Into Purposeful Living In 2025,” for Brainz Magazine. In her article, she leverages her grief experience to empower others to use their pain as a catalyst for growth. She lists motivating steps to acknowledge pain, look to the future, practice resilience and encourages readers to live authentically. While difficult seasons, such as grief, can be painful and uncomfortable, Christian hopes readers can be inspired by the possibility for growth in the journey of healing.

Recommendation #3

In It’s OK That You’re Not OK: Meeting Grief and Loss in a Culture That Doesn’t Understand, therapist and author Megan Devine offers an honest look at grief by challenging the cultural narrative that grief has a timeline and it shouldn’t linger too long. She empowers her readers by validating the messy and deeply personal reality of mourning. Like our other recommendations, Devine takes a meaningful stance on the perspective that individuals can grow alongside their grief and find new purpose and meaning within their experiences. Whether you’re looking for comfort or practical guidance for living with loss, Devine’s book offers a compassionate voice for encouragement.
