William Jay Pennington, age 67 of Cedar Springs, went to his Lord Saturday, November 23, 2024, surrounded by the love of his family. Born and raised on a farm with his brothers and sisters where adventures and shenanigans were part of daily life, Bill lived a life as big and bold as the open road he loved so much.
A long-haul truck driver and mechanic who proudly logged over 3 million miles, Bill’s hands were always busy fixing, building, or tinkering. Whether as a mechanic, lumberjack, or hunter, he was a man of skill and grit, unafraid of hard work and always ready to lend a hand. He had an unmatched ability to take care of his people, and nothing brought him more joy than being a father and grandfather to his “girls,” who were the absolute light of his life.
A devoted husband to DeeDee, Bill shared a love that was as steadfast and enduring as his spirit. Together, they built a life full of adventure and love, sharing passions like camping, sprint car races, and the thrill of Sasquatch hunting- a hobby that embodied Bill’s sense of humor and zest for life’s mysteries. Known for his protective nature and boundless energy, Bill’s life was one of passion-whether racing, chasing wild dreams, or simply watching the cars speed by his family. To know him was to know a man who could fix just about anything, whose laughter and stories lit up a room, and who worked tirelessly to care for those he loved.
William was preceded in death by his parents, Lyle and Ethel Pennington; sister, Betty Miller; nephew, Monte Hollebeck; and granddaughter, Destini Cunliffe. William is survived by his wife, DeeDee of 53 years; children, Brandi Cunliffe, Shauna (Brian) LaFave; grandchildren, Lila Cunliffe, Victoria Cunliffe, Chelsea LaFave, Elliana LaFave; brother, Thomas (Nancy) Pennington; sister, Ruth Pennington; sister-in-law, Debra (John) Muns; and many nieces and nephews, and countless family, friends, and many young adults who Bill guided and supported who considered him a father figure, who will forever carry his legacy in their hearts. His memory lives on in their stories told around campfires, the laughter shared at the track and the steadfast love he poured into his family. Rest easy Bill. Your road stretches on forever, and we’ll keep the wheels turning in your honor.
The family will greet friends and relatives from 10am-12pm on Friday, November 29, 2024, with services at 12pm, at Roth-Gerst Funeral Home, 305 N. Hudson Lowell, MI 49331. Memorial Contributions can be made to the family to help with funeral expenses.
