Virginia R. Neis

Virginia R. Neis (nee Kromer), age 95 of Grand Rapids, passed away at home on Wednesday, May 28, 2025. She was preceded in death by her parents, Adolf and Theresa (Brown) Kromer; husband of 34 years, William L. Neis; sons, Thomas M. Neis, John D. Neis, Matthew J. Neis; sister, Carol (William) Camden; and sister-in-law, Jane Kromer. Virginia is survived by her children, Mary (Dick) White, Cathy Neis (Jay Fowler), William B. Neis, Anne Neis; brother, David Kromer, sister, Mary Lou Kromer; grandchildren, Michelle Fry, Joe (Jennifer) Casares, Mellisa (George) Russo, Emmy Fowler, Tess (Joe) Bradly, Riley Neis and his mother Sara Arrington; great-grandchildren, Lily Benjamin, Arienna Russo, Alex Russo, Oscar Casares, and Jeremiah Casares; many Neis and Kromer nieces & nephews, and numerous Brown family cousins. Virginia graduated from Mt. Mercy High School and went on to receive her RN at Mercy Central School of Nursing in Grand Rapids and retired after a long career in nursing. She later went on to receive a Bachelor of Arts at Aquinas College. Virginia was a member and former president of both Ladies Literary Club and Women’s City Club. She was an avid reader and gardener, curious traveler, and supporter of the arts. Visitation will be held 5:30-8:30 pm, Monday, June 2, 2025, at O’Brien-Eggebeen-Gerst Funeral Home, 3980 Cascade Rd. SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49546 with Rosary Service at 7:30 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will take place 10:30 am, Tuesday, June 3, 2025, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 1449 Wilcox Park Dr SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49506. Rev. James Chelich presiding. Interment Resurrection Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Thomas Education Fund.
