Thomas Edward Hogan, age 96 of Grand Rapids, passed away peacefully on January 24. 2025. Tom was born on December 4, 1928, in Grand Rapids, Michigan to Arthur Sr. and Clara Hogan. Tom was preceded in death by his loving wife, Geraldine “Gerry” Hogan; brother, Arthur Hogan Jr.; sisters, Virginia Talbot, Mary Erhardt, Margaret Erhardt, and Bernadette Bradford. Tom is survived by his two daughters, Bridget (Dean) Hill, Molly (Tom) Morris; beloved grandchildren, Meagan (Steven) Wilcox, Erinn Hill, Jonathon Morris, and Anna (Mac) Lorenz.
Tom graduated from Catholic Central High School in 1946 and was a member of the Naval Reserves for 8 years. He started his own masonry company, Thomas E. Hogan Co., which he ran for over 40 years – building many churches, hospitals, and buildings in west Michigan. Tom was an active member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church for over 70 years. He volunteered his time by serving on boards including The Builders Association, Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, and La Croft Condo Association.
Tom and Gerry traveled extensively across the United States and all over the world. Their early years included camping at their favorite campground in Pentwater. He also enjoyed being on the water in his boats and spending time at their home in Charlevoix watching sunsets over Lake Michigan. Vero Beach, Florida was their winter home where he enjoyed golfing and spending time with friends. Time spent with family was most important. He was his grandchildren’s biggest supporter at all their activities, rain or shine. His sense of humor and love for life will be missed by all. The family would like to thank the staff at Beacon Hill, which has been his home for over 10 years.
Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11am on Thursday, January 30, 2025, at Immaculate Heart of Mary, 1935 Plymouth Ave. SE Grand Rapids, MI 49506, with visitation one hour prior. Rev. Troy Nevins presiding. Interment Woodlawn Cemetery. Memorial Contributions in Tom’s memory can be made to the Killgoar Foundation, 1935 Plymouth Ave. SE. Grand Rapids, MI 49506.
