Teddy (Ted) Alden Daniels

Teddy (Ted) Alden Daniels, 83, of Ludington, Michigan passed away on Tuesday May 20, 2025, at Blodgett Hospital in Grand Rapids, Michigan following a brief illness. He was born on April 24, 1942, in Cookeville, TN, the son of Mary Emogene and Lee Cordell Daniels.

Ted joined the Coast Guard in 1959, and following a tour of duty in Turkey was assigned to the Ludington Coast Guard station. While stationed there he met the love of his life, Joan Kay Ferris, who would become his wife and devoted life partner. They celebrated 62 years of marriage together on April 6, 2025.

A Master Welder by trade, Ted was employed in various capacities at Dow Chemical, retiring from a supervisory position in 1995. Following retirement Ted kept busy with many activities. Fondly referred to as “Ted the Tool Man”, he could often be found tinkering in his garage on a variety of projects. He enjoyed golfing, hunting, and spending time with friends and family. Ted knew no strangers, and he blessed the life of so many with his open arms and welcoming smile.

Ted was a long standing and devoted member of the American Legion, Lincoln Hills Golf Club, the Ludington Boat Club, the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, Moose Lodge and the Danish Brotherhood.

Ted will be deeply missed by his wife, Joan; daughters, Teresa (George) Gaskey, Kelley Chapman; grandchildren, Madison (Emma) Chapman, Mason Chapman, Connor Gaskey, and Ethan Gaskey. In addition, he leaves behind brothers, Troy (Terri) Daniels, Tim Johnson, and Tracy Johnson; brother-in-law, Ron (Cindy) Ferris; and numerous nieces and nephews. Ted was preceded in death by his parents; beloved stepfather, Leonard Johnson; sister, Kimberly Muscat; sister-in-law, Miriam Johnson; and mother and father-in-law, Ollie and Glenn Ferris.

In accordance with Ted’s wishes cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held from 1-4PM on Sunday, June 29, 2025, at the Ludington Boat Club, 502 Lake Street, Ludington, Michigan 49431. Family and friends are warmly invited to come share stories, laughter, and love as we remember the incredible husband, dad, grandpa, and friend that Teddy was.

  3. Joan, Terri and Kelley – I am so sorry for your loss. He was so kind, loving and FUN! I felt lucky to have spent some time with him. He always made me laugh. Mostly I think he was a special man who loved you girls so so much. Hoping your memories of him bring you comfort and a smile.

  4. Mr. Daniel’s warm smile and kind spirit lit up our childhood. Working with Ted later showed me his humor and kindness never faded, always lifting the mood. He will be missed!
