Susan Beadle

Susan Della Beadle (Scott), age 85, of Bradenton, Florida, passed away peacefully on June 6, 2025. Susan lived a full and vibrant life, splitting her time between Florida and Ada, Michigan.

She was born on November 7, 1939, in Toledo, Ohio, to Thornton Scott and Joanne Steingraber Scott.

Sue was preceded in death by her parents, her father and mother-in-law, Jack and Jane Beadle of Ann Arbor, MI, brothers-in-law Michael Beadle of Milan, MI, James Beadle of Tempe, AZ, Preston Trimble of Norman, OK. and cousin Bill Scott of Toledo, OH. Her loving husband, John Beadle, passed away in 2006. They married in 1965 and together, they built a life centered around family, adventure, and shared passions.

She is survived by her daughter Patricia (Patti) Beadle Spencer and son-in-law, Bruce Spencer, Jr. of Ada, MI; daughter Theresa (Terri) Beadle of United Arab Emirates; her beloved grandsons, William Spencer (Erika Cryderman) of Berkley, MI and Chance Spencer (Jenna Weiland) of Muskegon, MI. Susan was a proud and devoted grandmother, always cheering on their achievements and sharing stories of their adventures with friends and neighbors.

Sue is survived by sisters-in-law MaryJane (Paul) Tramontin of Ann Arbor, MI, Patricia Trimble of Norman, OK and Mark (Susan) Beadle of Marietta, GA. as well as her cousins, Nancy (John) Novak of Toledo, OH and Ron (Theresa) Scott of Curtice, OH. An only child, they were like siblings to her. There are also many nieces, nephews, and countless friends around the world who will remember her fondly.

During the warm Michigan summers, Sue could often be found aboard a sailboat on Lake Michigan, sailing alongside John and their daughters. A longtime member of the Muskegon Yacht Club, these memories on the water were among her most cherished.

Sue and John also shared a spirited love for food and competition, traveling across the United States to take part in chili cook-offs and barbecue competitions. They were members of the Kansas City Barbeque Society and were both certified judges. Their team, B. S. Cookers was known not just for their delicious dishes but for the joy and camaraderie they brought to every event, and they took home plenty of trophies to boot!

Over the years, Sue and John owned several classic, British MG cars and were founding members of the West Michigan Old Speckled Hen MG Car Club. They were also members of the Rude Wine Tasting Group for many years in Grand Rapids.

After John retired, they bought a home in Bradenton, FL and became Snowbirds, spending winters there. In 2018, Sue moved to Florida full time. There she continued to be involved in many activities including the Bradenton Elks, Trailer Estates (TE) Fire Auxiliary, TE Yacht Club and the TE Share-A-Craft Club.

An adventurous traveler even into her later years, Sue visited her daughter Terri in the U.A.E. in the winter of 2023 and again in the fall of 2024. She embraced new cultures with curiosity and always found joy in spending time with her loved ones, no matter how far the journey. Just last summer, Sue and Terri took a trip to Salt Lake City, Utah, to visit her grandson Chance—and for Sue, it was a milestone moment: her very first time flying first class. She reveled in the experience, laughing at every new luxury and marveling at how travel could still surprise her, even in her mid‑80s. That joy, that sparkle of wonder in her eyes, is a memory we’ll cherish forever.

She lived her life fully, loved deeply, and when her time came, she left this world as she had lived—with dignity, on her own terms, and surrounded by love. Known for her warmth, sense of humor, and generous spirit, Susan touched many lives and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

There will be a visitation from 5:00 to 8:00 pm on Thursday, June 19th at O’Brien-Eggebeen-Gerst Funeral Home, 3980 Cascade Rd. SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49546. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, June 20, 2025, at St. Robert of Newminster Catholic Church, 6477 Ada Dr. SE, Ada, MI 49301 with a visitation from 10:00 to 11:00 am. Interment will be at Ada Cemetery, Ada, MI. In lieu of flowers the family suggests a donation in Sue’s name be made to Tidewell Hospice, Bradenton, FL or Special Olympics Michigan.
