Shane Andrew Wielinga

Shane Andrew Wielinga, age 37, passed away unexpectedly at his residence in Sherman Oaks, California on May 25, 2023. Born in Grand Rapids, MI on March 1, 1986. Formerly of Kentwood, MI and Lowell, MI. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Diane A. VanderWall; grandfathers, David R. Smith; Jerry Genther; his dogs, Zippy and Oliver. He is survived by his mother, Jackie Wielinga; father, Randy L. Smith; stepmother, Melissa Bailey; grandparents, Robert and Nancy Wielinga; Rick VanderWall; Judy Genther; sister, Jessica Holbrook; brother, Colton Bailey; aunts and uncles, Laurie (Randy) McElwain; Andy Wielinga; Kelly O’Brien; Maureen (Craig) Wolbers; nephew, Bryson Holbrook; many great aunts, great uncles, and cousins. Shane is also survived by his beloved dog Flopsy.

Soon after Shane graduated from East Kentwood High School, he left Michigan and set off for California to pursue his dream in the film industry. He put himself through college and graduated from Cal State University Northridge w/honors and attained a Bachelor of Arts in Film Production & Cinematography. He worked on projects in film, social media, marketing & entertainment. Our family is proud he never gave up the struggle and hard work to pursue his dreams. Shane loved all things technology, movies & television. He was a passionate advocate for dogs.  He was affiliated with Hollywood Masonic Lodge 355. May he rest in peace with his loved ones that passed before him. His sweet smile and beautiful soul will be remembered forever.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11am on Saturday, November 11, 2023, at Watermark Country Club, 1600 Galbraith Ave SE, Grand Rapids, MI  49546. Visitation will be held from 11am to 12pm; with a time of sharing starting at 12pm; and a buffet luncheon to follow. Please RSVP for the Buffet Luncheon by Friday, November 3, 2023. RSVP by TEXT to 310-760-6500.  

To honor Shane’s memory, we’re hosting “Shane’s Toys and Treats for Shelter Dogs”. We’ll be collecting dog toys and dog treats geared towards larger dogs that are often overlooked and spend extended time at shelters. Donations benefit the Humane Society of West Michigan. Please bring your donations to the Celebration of Life on November 11, 2023.
