Setsuko “Mitchy” Pirok, age 82 of Lowell, passed away Saturday, July 22, 2023. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and three sisters; and her two dogs, Butaro “Boo” and Sugar Plum. Setsuko is survived by her husband, Michael Pirok; daughter, Catherine Pirok Smith; son, Christopher Pirok; grandson, Miles Christopher Pirok; two brothers and one sister still in Japan. Setsuko had an admirable educational background, having graduated from high school, and completed four years in a special sewing and dressmaking trade school. This education fueled her passion for fashion and personal style, which she delighted in sharing with others throughout her life, as a self-employed professional seamstress. She showcased her remarkable skills and left a lasting impact on those who crossed her path. Deeply committed to her heritage, Setsuko was an active member of the Japanese Heritage Society. She found joy in her hobbies, particularly in the company of friends, and found solace and creativity in flower arranging. Nothing brought her more joy than doting on her grandson, Miles. Visitation will be held at 12pm on Friday July 28, 2023 at Roth-Gerst Chapel 305 N. Hudson, Lowell, MI 49331. Service at 1pm with Don Silvis officiating. Memorial Contributions can be made to the Humane Society of Western Michigan.

  5. Mrs. Pirok was a wonderful mom to my dear friend Cathy and was also an interesting and fun influence on me as well. I loved going to their home when I was young and learning from Mitchy about her culture, seeing the treasures from her homeland and tasting the new and delicious foods of Japan. Everyone who knew her is a better, more well rounded and educated person. Thank you Mitchy
