Sandra Lee Spykerman, age 78 of Grand Rapids, passed away Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at home surrounded by family. She was a loving mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, and friend. Sandy loved to support her son and grandchildren in all things including every sporting event and important function. She had a beautiful smile, making everyone in her presence grateful to be around her. Sandy was always happy to help wherever she could. She was stubborn, never one to ask for help. (guess that’s where her son and grandkids get it from).
Sandy graduated from Union High School and later went on to graduate from Davenport University to earn her degree. She was employed at Dodson Realty for 56 years working until she physically could no longer.
Sandy was an animal lover. She had numerous animals over the years, including a family of raccoons that she would feed in her backyard. Up to her final days animals gravitated towards her, her granddaughter, Payton’s cats were always snuggled up close to Sandy in bed.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard “Dick” Spykerman. Sandy is survived by her son, Dan Spykerman; grandchildren, Payton Spykerman, Logan Spykerman; brother, Robert Marker; sister-in-law, Marie Spykerman; niece, Diana Marker, Stacy (Roberto) Rockwell and their children, Tori and Quinn; and nephews, Craig Marker, and Bradley Frieswyk.
All those who knew Sandy knew how special a person she was and how much her family adored her. Sandy will be sorely missed.

Sandy was my father’s secretary/office manager at Dodgson Realty Co. She was there at the start and her work was instrumental to the firm’s success and growth. Dedicated, dependable, and a very good person. It was my honor to work with her and to get to know her well over the years. We will miss you, Sandy.
We shared many good times together. It all started when we met at Davenport College, then days at the Holland beach, Saugatuck, working downtown and meeting for lunch at the Woolworth lunch counter. Wish we could have gotten together more since my last visit when I took her to Rachel’s memorial in March of 2021.
