Ruth Lupton Hagan passed away at the age of 96 on December 24, 2022. She was born on September 17th, 1926. Her parents were Murtle Bosley Lupton and Elmer Hamilton Lupton.
Ruth had fond memories from her teenaged years of spending summers on her parents’ boat on the Chesapeake Bay. She enjoyed eating crab cakes. She was proud of being a Marylander.
Ruth graduated in 1948 from Notre Dame of Maryland University. In college, besides class work in her major of Biology, she was the co-captain of the synchronized swimming team. Soon after graduating, she married Woodrow “Woody” Wilson Hagan of Baltimore Maryland. She loved raising a family and being a housewife. She was proud of her chosen career and life’s work.
From an early age, she felt deep affection for dogs. She enjoyed roller skating and one of her earliest dates with Woody Hagan was to go roller skating. About the time Debbie, her youngest child, started high school, she took up and became an avid knitter. She particularly liked making cable knit sweaters. As empty nesters, she and Woody took up motorcycling.
Ruth is survived by her son, Richard Lupton Hagan (Terry West); and her daughter, Deborah “Debbie” Hagan Mitlyng (Jerry, deceased). Ruth is preceded in death by her husband, Woody Hagan; and by her daughter, Patricia “Pat” Hagan Preyer. Also surviving her are her granddaughter, Kirsten Louise Swindall (John); and her grandson, Justin Brett Preyer (Amanda); and four great grandchildren.
