Roger G. Stiles

Roger G. Stiles, age 87 of Grand Rapids, MI, passed away April 24, 2024. The son of Webster and Bernadine Stiles, he was born on September 15, 1936, at home on Logan St., in Grand Rapids. Roger was preceded in death by his daughter, Bonnie Schermer; son-in-law, George C. Calder; brothers, David, Phillip, Donald, and Greg Stiles. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Narcene; daughters, Betsy (Norm) Drost, Mary (Norm) Sedelbauer; son-in-law, David (Amy) Schermer; grandchildren, Sean (Jessica) Calder, Kelly Oliver, Alex (Meridith) Sedelbauer, Jake (Megan) Sedelbauer, Jilli (Dan) Hoag, Dr. Wesley Schermer; step-grandchildren, Angie Drost, Jason Drost; great-grandchildren, Isla and Phoenix Calder, Crew and Quinn Sedelbauer, Emersyn Oliver, Remi and Jaxon Hoag, Alana Hampton; sisters-in-law, Shelia Stiles, Sharon Stiles, Nancy Stiles, Jan Stiles; along with many other family and friends.

Rog was a graduate of Ottawa Hill High School, class of ’54. He proudly served in the Army Reserves as a medic. Roger met Narce one summer at Gun Lake, his home away from home. They fell in love, and 4 short months later they were married on New Years Eve, 1960. Rog had a way with words that helped him forge his sales career. He started his career at Yellow Pages, where he made many good friends. Roger shifted his focus to Machinery Sales after his father started Stiles Machinery. After many years of working with his father, he started his own company, Roger Stiles & Associates Inc.

Rog retired early and spent his free time enjoying boating, golfing in Florida, and summers at his cottage on Gun Lake with his family and friends. One of his favorite things was the Gun Lake “walkthrough”. He was a member of Costco since 2004.  Rog was known for his generous heart and smile, and his quick wit, he always had a joke at the ready.  He will be greatly missed.

Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11am on Tuesday, April 30, 2024, at St. Robert’s Catholic Church, 6477 Ada Dr SE, Ada, MI 49301, with visitation one hour prior. Rev. Logan presiding. Celebration of Life will follow at 12pm at Watermark Country Club, 1600 Galbraith Ave SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49546. Funny hats optional.   3. Roger became a friend while we attended GRJC together. Had wonderful times together on the sailboat on Gun Lake and enjoyed our time together with his brothers and parents at the cottage! Brother David was the bestman in my wedding. Very sorry for your loss Narcene. Ron Van Wormer
