Robert “Bob” Schermer passed away peacefully Thursday, December 18, 2025, at the age of 90. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 65 years, Karen (Brown) Schermer, the love of his life and steadfast partner. Both grads of EGR High(53) & Albion College.

Bob lived with extraordinary energy, curiosity, and warmth. He possessed a kind and outgoing spirit, a competitive spark, and an unmistakable joy for life. Always in motion, he embraced adventure wholeheartedly—approaching every sport, activity, or challenge with enthusiasm and a friendly smile.

Summers were often spent at the family cottage on Hamlin Lake, where Bob delighted in water skiing, sailing, windsurfing, and long days surrounded by family and friends. Fall found him immersed in the outdoors through his love of hunting and fishing. Winters were marked by family ski trips and diving adventures—seasons filled with laughter, togetherness, and memories that will be cherished for generations.

Professionally, Bob enjoyed a lifelong career as a stockbroker and financial consultant, reflecting his discipline, intellect, and dedication to serving others with integrity. Yet his greatest accomplishments were found at home. He took immense pride in being a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Bob worked hard and played even harder, but he always made time for the people he loved. Life in the Schermer household was full, lively, and never dull.

Bob was preceded in death by daughter-in-law, Bonnie L. Schermer.

Bob is survived by his four children: Bob (Kim) Schermer, Sue (Tom) Swaney, Dave (Amy) Schermer, and Jane (Terry) Hartigh;

nine grandchildren: Kirk (Jennifer), Charlie, Karen (Swift), Bobbie (Lex), Jillian (Dan), Stewart (Allie), Wesley (Amanda), Robbie (Talia), and CJ (Christine);

and nine great-grandchildren (and counting): Theo, Remi, Wyatt, Tate, Jaxon, Resi, Penny, Tommy, and Macie.

Dad Scherm—your life was full, rewarding, and deeply blessed. It’s okay to rest now.

“Celebration of Life” at a later date.
