Rick Haan, age 71, of Lowell, entered the presence of his Lord on July 27, 2025, following a motorcycle accident. He is lovingly remembered by his children, Heather (David) Held and Heidi (Tom) Smith; grandchildren; Daniel, Grayson, Michael, Isabelle, and John; brothers, Doug (Sally) Haan and Ken (Lori) Haan; brothers-in-law, Jerry (Sandy) Bolt, Tom Bolt, Jack (Lynne) Bolt, Carl (Margie) Bolt, and Andy Doezema; sister-in-law, Jacque Bolt; many cherished nieces and nephews; special neighbors: Peter and Ashley Vandenberg and their children Charlotte, Madelynn, Lillian, and William. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 46 years, Ruth; parents, Dan and Beverly Haan; parents-in-law, Martin and Ida Bolt; brothers-in-law, Bob Bolt, Dick Bolt, and Don Bolt; and sisters-in-law, Dar Bolt, Cheryl Bolt, and Barb Doezema.
Rick was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a proud “Bumpa” to his grandchildren. He had a gift for making people feel seen and valued, always taking time to connect with others. His greatest joy was spending time with his grandkids—whether cheering them on at sporting events, planning road trips (complete with gas price calculations), or bringing popsicles across the street to his favorite neighborhood kids.
After Ruth’s passing, Rick honored her memory by embracing her love of baking, faithfully working through her recipe box and continuing her famous Snickers cheesecake tradition.
A member of Cascade Fellowship CRC, Rick found community in his church family, volunteering and building lasting friendships. His love for God was evident in every aspect of his life.
A celebration of Rick’s life will be held as follows, Visitation Sunday, August 3, 2025, 4:00–8:00 PM, and Monday, August 4, 2025, 10:00–11:00 AM, at Cascade Fellowship CRC, 6655 Cascade Rd, Grand Rapids, MI 49546. Memorial Service Monday, August 4, 2025, 11:00 AM
officiated by Pastor Bill Whitt.
