Rick Cleaver, age 74, of Kentwood, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 21, 2026. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Colleta Cleaver.
Rick will be lovingly remembered by his devoted wife of 40 years, Cindy Cleaver; his children, Erin, John, and Dani; his brother, Jay (Candy) Cleaver; his brothers- and sisters-in-law, Deb (Tom) Montgomery, David (Julie) Hinds, and Mark (Lori) Hinds; as well as many cherished nieces and nephews. He is also survived by dear friends, Dave Pell, Jerry Keranen, and Marv and Dawn Snedeker, who held a special place in his life.
Rick pursued his education at Word of Life Bible Institute and Citadel Bible College in Ozark, Arkansas. His faith was central to his life, leading him to serve as a missionary in the Ozarks. He later worked in warehouse services, where he was known for his strong work ethic, integrity, and genuine care for his coworkers—especially the many immigrants he worked alongside and befriended.
A faithful member of Forest Hills Baptist Church, Rick lived out his faith in both word and action. Outside of work and ministry, he found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He was an avid fisherman, a dedicated fan of football and basketball, and took great pride in maintaining a tropical fish tank that he cared for over many decades. He also had a special love for animals, especially cats and dogs, which brought him great companionship and joy throughout his life.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Hospice of Michigan and the Cancer & Hematology Centers of West Michigan for their compassionate care and support.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, March 27, 2026, at Forest Hills Baptist Church, 3900 Fulton St. E, Grand Rapids, with visitation one hour prior. Pastor Craig Perry will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Word of Life Bible Institute, 4230 Glendale Rd., Pottersville, NY 12860.

I hope memories will help you find peace through the loss of Rick.
I was thankful to know Rick through Cyndi’s great love for him. May he rest in peace.
Rick was an amazing example for Christians dealing with difficulties . With several health issues making his life painful and hard I never heard him question God. His trust and faith were an example for all of us. I have no doubt Rick is rejoicing in heaven. He fought the good fight and I look forward to seeing him again in heaven.
