Richard Dale Hudson, age 76 of Lowell, passed away on Saturday, December 23, 2023. He was preceded in death by his son Matthew Miller, and daughter Tammi Fitzgerald. Richard is survived by his wife, Faye Hudson; children, Amy (Monte) Anderson, Karen (Rob) White, and Patrick (Ashley) Miller; son-in-law, Quinn Fitzgerald; grandchildren, Deanna and Kaleb Anderson, Joselyn and Savana Fitzgerald, Riley, Tyler, and Jaxon White, Bailey, Kaylee and Chase Miller; great-grandchildren, Ian and Taryn Anderson. This year family and friends are grieving the loss of a man who loved his family and friends fiercely. If you knew Rick, you know several of his greatest joys in life were to make people laugh and to tell stories. Rick had some favorites we won’t forget. For example, if you asked Rick how he was doing, he’d respond with something like “not bad for an Irishman” or “old enough to fart dust”. He loved his cat, Gracie! If you visited, you would see Gracie on his lap and Rick telling stories of her naughty antics. He had a thoughtfulness of others. He was always there to listen and talk. He was everyone’s biggest cheerleader. He always had his calendar full of dates so he could remember and wish his family and friends a happy birthday. When you think about the life of someone, you think and how to define the greatness of their life. He was a Vietnam vet. He served as a narcotics agent. He also loved sports, especially golf and baseball and took great pride playing on his family softball team. He later went on to coach. Sports were so important to him that even after he physically couldn’t play, he was always a patient teacher of the games for his grandchildren. But his most important role in life ended up being a husband, parent and grandparent. In the end when you have nothing but love of your family you know you have accomplished what was needed. Today we will grieve his loss, but we will celebrate the life of a man who wanted nothing but the best for others. Jesus says he will wipe every tear and he will bear our burdens for us. Help be the hands and feet by helping to lift Faye up in prayer and support her. She is grieving the loss of a husband and needs our love. In your memory Rick, we love you and you will be missed greatly. Services will be held Saturday, December 30, 2023, at 12:30pm with visitation one hour prior at Roth-Gerst Funeral Home, 305 N. Hudson, Lowell, MI 49331. Rev. Kyle Pierpont officiating. There will be a luncheon at Lowell moose lodge following the funeral from 2-4 pm. All are welcome.
