Philip Gardiner Bump

09/12/2026

Philip Gardiner Bump passed away peacefully in the loving arms of his parents on September 12, 2026 at Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital. He fought bravely for 9 hours on Earth before returning home to our Heavenly Father.

Philip was born on September 12, 2026 at 12:39 am, to proud parents Paul and Frances Bump. Philip was born at 22 weeks gestation and weighed 15 ounces. Though his time on Earth was heartbreakingly brief, he filled our hearts with a lifetime of love. He knew only warmth, safety, and the endless devotion of his family.

Jesus says in Matthew 19:14 “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”

Philip is forever loved and remembered by his parents, Paul and Frances Bump; his sister, June; his grandparents, Peter and Leigh Bump and Don and Mary Smith; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

A service to honor Philip’s life and celebrate his eternal peace will be held on Friday, September 25, 2026, at Calvary Church (707 E Beltline Ave NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49525). Family and friends are welcome for a time of visitation beginning at 10:00 am, with the funeral service following at 11:00 am.

The family wishes to thank the dedicated doctors and nurses in the NICU, Special Care OB, and Labor and Delivery for their compassionate care.
