Orley Albert Swoveland, age 80, of Grand Rapids, passed away Sunday, April 9, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Judith (Judy), his darling daughter, Suzanne (Sue), and his treasured grandson, Jonathan (Jon) Loveall, who never called him grandpa only GA. Orley was born in Grand Rapids and graduated from Comstock Park High School. He proudly served in the United States Navy and then graduated from Western Michigan University. He was a hard worker and employed many at Mid-America Engineering and Manufacturing. Orley loved the yearly company picnic and pig roast. He loved seeing his employees smile. Orley always had a quick wit and a smart comment. He could put a smile on your face with a joke or a kind word. He loved golfing, stamp collecting, cooking, and travelling. Las Vegas was a favorite! Michigan State Football games were a staple in the fall for many years. Family will greet visitors 6-8pm on Wednesday, April 12, 2023, at O’Brien-Eggebeen-Gerst Chapel, 3980 Cascade Rd. SE, Grand Rapids 49546 with Rosary Service at 7:30pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10am, Thursday, April 13, 2023, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 1935 Plymouth Ave SE, Grand Rapids 49506. Rev. Troy Nevins, presiding. Family will greet visitors 1 hour prior to Mass. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Killgoar Foundation at IHM.

  1. Forever in the arms of Jesus. He was a great dad and GA and a friend of many. My heart hurts for you but we have the promise of seeing him again. Love you guys please give your mom a hug for me.

  2. Sorry for you loss. Orley was a good boss and friend to my mom JoAnne, and I remember the company picnics well! I can picture him sitting in his office.

  7. My love and sympathy, dear Judy and Sue. I will always treasure times in the past that we shared with Orley , especially at IHM church and school functions and at the Catholic Central Cache Auctions.
