Nancy Jeanne Guzzo, age 87, of Grand Rapids, passed away on Tuesday, March 31, 2026. She is survived by her four children, Patricia Guzzo, Barbara (Jeffrey) Main, Marie Guzzo and Edward (Helen) Guzzo; Grandchildren, Jacob (Alyssa) Main, Brandon (Lindsey McCarty) Main, Faith (Daniel) Guzzo McCarter, Sarah Guzzo; great grandchildren; Mila McCarty, Benjamin Main, and Cameron Main, her sister Mary Alice Newkirk; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Frank and Jean Buzolits, and Frank and Cynthia Guzzo as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Henry V. Guzzo, in 2019, and her parents, Robert and Mary Honton of Grand Rapids.
As a mother, Nancy loved her children and ran a tight ship, keeping a household of six organized and fed, and providing endless support for her kids and husband. She had a quiet strength and always modeled “low drama” and constancy. The family lived in Dowagiac, Michigan and Onaway, Michigan, where Nancy worked as both a nurse and office manager. Nancy did an amazing job of building the genealogy of many branches of the family tree, even organizing travel in Italy to find the Guzzo family origins. She helped countless others on their genealogy journey by volunteering at the Grand Rapids Public Library to save old records on new media and answering questions. She won the Library’s Volunteer of the Year award. Nancy was a lifelong friend of the Dominican sisters of Marywood and volunteered at church in numerous ways including singing in the choir and helping with funerals. Even as she has aged, she looked for ways to brighten the days of her fellow residents at Porter Hills, meeting them for meals, listening, or sharing flowers.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, April 7th at 11:00a.m. at St. Robert of Newminster Catholic Church, 6477 Ada Drive, Ada, MI 49301, with Rev. Tony Russo presiding. Visitation will be one hour prior to Mass. Interment will be at Resurrection Cemetery. Nancy’s family would especially like to thank the caregivers at Porter Hills Village and the Emmanuel Hospice Team for their loving support. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Marywood Dominican Sisters, 111 Lakeside Drive, Grand Rapids, MI 49503, Brio-Porter Hills Village, Emmanual Hospice, or a charity of your choice.
