Mirdza passed away on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, at the age of 100. She was born in Ezere, Latvia, on February 9, 1925, the daughter of the late Eduards Beltins and Milda (Indrovics) Beltins. Her childhood was spent in the Ezere countryside, near the Latvian-Lithuanian border, with her sister, Spodra (Beltins) Gendrikovs. When only 18, Mirdza’s family fled Latvia and spent years in displaced persons camps in Germany, where she met and married Roberts Vizulis, also from Ezere. After the war, they began a new life in England. In 1958, they emigrated to the USA and settled in Kalamazoo, Michigan. After Roberts’ death in 1973, she married Harijs (Harry) Rollis in 1978, moving to Ada, Michigan in 2006. Harry passed away unexpectedly in 2012. Since then, she has been under the loving care of her daughter Daina and son-in-law Atis. Mirdza was blessed with a life of wonderful health and mental acuity, and her large loving family was her most valuable possession.
Mirdza was preceded in death by first husband Roberts in 1973, second husband Harijs in 2012, sister Spodra in 2019, son Valdis Vizulis in 2024, and daughter-in-law Rebecca Vizulis in 2025. Surviving are three children: Andris Vizulis, Daina Lizenbergs (Atis) and Karlis Vizulis (Anda); grandchildren, Andris (Annie), Arjana (Ivan), Larisa (Paul), Aleksis (Nicole), Ilze, Sofia and David; great-grandchildren, Lucija, Henriks, Lukas, Elise and Mara.
Mirdza was a long-time member of the Kalamazoo Latvian Evangelical Lutheran United Church (100 Cherry Hill St, Kalamazoo, MI 49006), where her Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 30 at 10:30am. It will be officiated by Rev. Aija Graham and will be followed by interment at Riverside Cemetery, Kalamazoo. Memorial contributions may be made to the Kalamazoo Latvian Evangelical Lutheran United Church or Latvian Center Garezers (57732 Lone Tree Rd, Three Rivers, MI 49093).
