Michael Phillip Lannan

Michael Phillip Lannan, age 80, of Cascade, Michigan, passed away peacefully on July 13, 2026 in the presence of his loved ones.

He was born on June 4, 1946, in Detroit, Michigan, to the late Raymond and Fidelis Lannan. He attended Detroit Catholic Central High School before graduating college with Bachelor of Science and entering a career in sales. Mike moved to Grand Rapids in 1975, where he raised his family and became a longtime member of St. Robert of Newminster Catholic Church. Mike was a dedicated Catholic and participated in his church community through Eucharistic Ministry, Bible studies, and attending daily mass. Never one to say no to a treat, Mike especially enjoyed attending Coffee & Donut Sundays with the Knights of Columbus.

An avid biker and walker, Mike valued physical fitness and enjoyed watching sports, particularly those involving his children and grandchildren. Mike was very proud of his family and always looked forward to family gatherings, where he enjoyed the homemade meals and hospitality of his many daughters.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Paula Lannan.

He is survived by his seven daughters: Michelle (Grant) Grable, Beth (Mike) Bouma, Colleen (Gordon) Shields, Maureen Partlo, Katherine (Ryan) Peters, Taylor (Brock) Blanchard, and Stephanie Lannan; his grandchildren: Tyler (Roby), Zachary, and Madison Grable; Rachel (Drew) Cassiday, Austin, Brennen, and Julia Bouma; Paula (Tyler), James, and Sophia Shields; Gabrielle and Lannan Partlo; Charlie Smith, Allison, Ella, and Brynn Peters; Avery, Maddox, Charlotte, Marshall, Oliver, and Spencer Blanchard; and his great-grandchildren, Ava Cassiday; and Rowyn and Crew Piper; his sister, Jean Wickett, his nephews and niece.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11AM on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at St. Robert of Newminster Catholic Church, 6477 Ada Drive SE, Grand Rapids, Michigan 49301, with visitation one hour prior. Fr. Tony Russo presiding. Interment Cascade Cemetery.

  3. God Bless Mike. May he Rest in Peace. Mike was full of Love for Jesus Christ and that Love spread to everyone he met. We will miss his Great Smile but the memories of Love and the lessons in Faith and dedication to Christ will continue to warm our hearts and nourish our souls. Vivat Jesus!

Even he gone with God now but I beleive he still around all day long at St Robert church with his heavy bag , smiling , standing at the baptism pond reading the bible He still attending Funeral lunch … He still at bible study , daily mass , weekend mass … He still with us … and he also pray for all of us too .

  5. We will really miss seeing Mike in the pews of St. Robert during Mass, the chairs in the Marian Chapel for Adoration, and at the tables in Newminster Hall for donut Sunday and Wednesday dinners. He was a constant presence in Church and a pure source of joy. Mike always had a smile to share, a kind word to give, and an enjoyable conversation to engage. We are blessed to have met him and to have been a Church Family. We extend our sympathy and love to his family – Brian, Jane, Lillian, and Ava

  6. Mike always made friends with everyone on the sidewalk at PP. I’m not a Catholic, but he never judged me for that. I prayed for him the night before he passed away. I miss him and will continue to remember him šŸ™

I’m so sorry to hear about Mike he was my favorite resident at Sunrise we would talk and laugh and joke all the time it made me feel good to see Mike daily and engaging with him my prayers and condolences goes out to his daughters he lived so much and also his grandchildren as well you have my deepest sympathy
