Michael Leo Gahan Sr. born Oct. 9th, 1939, passed away Monday May 27, 2024, at home. He is preceded in death by wife Roberta of 52 years, daughter Margaret Merryman, Son-in-laws Edward Mooney and Jim Peterson. And granddaughter Alyshia Peterson. His parents, James & Margaret Gahan, sisters, Mary Jean, Joanne and brothers Roger and Ed Gahan.
As a farm boy, lovingly known as a Parnell Hellion- he graduated “In the Top 9 of the Class” from St Patrick’s, out of 9. He and his friends also toured the church steeple “after hours”. As for his military career he would say: he won the government’s lottery aka “The Draft” joining the US Army, he was able to see foreign land.
He met the love of his life, Roberta “Bert” Marshall, at work, making an instant family July 16th, 1966, with Terri and continuing to grow their family by adding 4 more. His career was working the pipeline “UP North”, a proud member of 324 Operating Engineers Union. His career allowed his family to camp every summer. Many co-workers like family. In his spare time he enjoyed cribbage, euchre, fishing, mowing, golf, wintering in Florida, pie making & shenanigans. If you needed anything, he had it, including rides for grandkids. Quick witted and known for one liners, he often had people laughing.
Dedicated to his faith he was loyal to Sat. 5 PM Mass, you could find him in the back on the south side.
All though a loyal Tigers fan, he would be known to say “Tigers couldn’t hit their own ass with a bat in each hand.” We know the Tigers won in his honor on his last day.
Mike is survived by his family; Terri Mooney, Kevin Merryman, Marie Peterson, Mike Gahan (Angel), Sharon (Kelly) Landman; 15 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and sisters-in-law Darlene Gahan & Pat Marshall

I do feel I failed Mike with not seeing him earlier this spring. Mike & Bert were wonderful friends and neighbors to me for many years. His membership/ life member at Tri Town Conservation Club was long. Mike’s service at the club for many years before me was so very important to all of us that now do the work/service to maintain this club. Mike is gone from us now and went to see His other loved ones. Rest in peace! See you again!
