Maureen Maher, aged 82, died peacefully on December 16th, 2025.
Beloved for her infectious kindness, unflappable patience, and generous nature, Maureen made lifelong friends while creating a sense of genuine community wherever she spent her time—be it at her 25+ years working at Aquinas College, volunteering with the Dominican Sisters at Marywood and as a reading mentor at Sibley Elementary School, or—in her final years—with her neighbors at Clark at Franklin. Guided by a deep belief in the tenets of the Catholic Worker’s Movement, Maureen’s heart (and home) opened up time and time again for the less fortunate, the marginalized, and those most in need. Fiercely loyal to her family, she remained close to—and was a grounding presence in the lives of—her sister Rosemary, her brother James, her many cousins, nieces, nephews, and grandchildren—all of whom she showed a deep, unwavering love. Having raised four boys, Maureen also possessed a keen sense of humor, enjoyed a good laugh, and was always quick with a smile and hug.
Maureen is preceded in death by her loving husband of 52 years, Patrick and survived by sons, Kevin (Carolyn), Timothy (Varunyoo), Michael (Roselyn), and Sean (Kate); 12 grandchildren, Brian, Yoshee, Tito, Cristian, Katherine, Nicolas, Jacob, Max, Elizabeth, Lucia, Kathy and Michelle; her sister, Rosemary Zant; sister-in-law, Peggy Duba (Ed); and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family would like to thank the staff at Clark, Emmanuel Hospice and Mecca’s Angels for the loving care provided. . . Per Maureen’s wishes cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will take place on February 7th at 11AM at The Chapel of the Word at 111 Lakeside Dr. Grand Rapids. Memorial contributions may be made in Maureen’s name to the Dominican Sisters of Grand Rapids. https://www.grdominicans.org/support-us/
