Matilda “Tillie” Martha Sayfie

Matilda “Tillie” Martha Sayfie, age 99 of Grand Rapids, passed away Tuesday, May 13, 2025. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Frederick Sayfie, Edward Sayfie; sister, Lorraine Karrip; nieces, Jayme Karrip, Carolyn Karrip; and nephew, Robert Sayfie. She is survived by her nieces and nephews, Jimmy Karrip, Daniel (Mary) Karrip, Carol Alvarado, Thomas Karrip, Richard Karrip, Denise (Marv) Tjalma, Edward (Cheryl) Sayfie Jr., Marilyn (Gary) Burkhart, Anne (George) Riddering, Narisa Sayfie, Michael (Jackie) Sayfie, Frederick Sayfie, David (Linda) Sayfie; and many more cousins, nephews, and nieces from the Sayfie and Karrip sides. Tillie graduated from Grand Rapids Central High School. She worked as an executive secretary for Rapistan and Lear Siegler. Tillie enjoyed baking, cooking, traveling, and loved spending time with her family and friends. Although no children of her own she was instrumental in helping to raise her many nieces and nephews. Visitation will take place 6-8 pm Sunday, May 18, 2025, with Trisagion Service at 7:30 pm at St. Nicholas Antiochian Orthodox Church, 2250 E Paris Ave SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49546. Funeral service will be held 11:00 am with a Meal of Mercy in the Cultural Center following the service, Monday, May 19, 2025, at St. Nicholas Antiochian Orthodox Church, with visitation one hour prior. Very Reverend Michael Nasser presiding. Interment Woodlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Nicholas Church.  Service will be broadcast live at https://stnicholasgr.com/ then click “watch live” in the upper portion of page.
