Mary Louise “Lou” Morrow peacefully entered into eternal life at the age of 97. She was born to John and Vianna DeMarce on February 6, 1929, in Benson, Minnesota, where she spent her early years in the close-knit Midwestern community.
Lou graduated from the College of St. Catherine in St. Paul, Minnesota, and began her vocation as a medical technologist. She viewed her profession not simply as a career, but as a ministry of caring for others. Even in retirement, she maintained a keen interest in medicine and the well-being of those around her.
Soon after college, she met the love of her life, John Morrow, on a blind date. It was the beginning of a remarkable partnership built on faith, love, and unwavering devotion to family. They were married in 1952 and were blessed with six children. As John’s career in hospital administration led the family to several communities throughout the Midwest, Lou faithfully created a loving home wherever they lived before they settled in Grand Rapids in 1965.
Her Catholic faith was the foundation of her life. She and John became devoted members of Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish, where they formed treasured lifelong friendships through their active participation in parish life. One of the quiet accomplishments they held closest to their hearts was helping establish Eucharistic Adoration and its chapel at Immaculate Heart of Mary. Never seeking recognition, they considered this among God’s greatest blessings in their lives.
She found her greatest joy in her family. She delighted in watching her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren grow and treasured every opportunity to gather with them. She and John also enjoyed traveling together and remained deeply connected to friends near and far, especially Bill and Mary Passinault.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John; and their son, Michael. She is survived by her daughter, Anne; sons, Mark (Kathy), Pat (Lisa), Thomas, and Peter (Lisa); grandchildren, Katherine (Matt) Dabney, John (Sarah) Gilbert, Benjamin Gilbert, Abigail Gilbert, Daniel (Becky) Morrow, Mary Morrow, Anne (Aidan) Anderson, Christopher (Katie) Morrow, Michael Morrow, Margaret (Mike) Balck, Jonathan Morrow, Sean (Gina) Morrow, Michael Morrow, Sydney Morrow; and eighteen great-grandchildren. Additionally, her extended family; many dear friends from the parish (the Cenacle women) and community at Beacon Hill whose lives she touched through kindness, generosity, and steadfast faith.
She will be remembered for her unwavering faith, her quiet strength, her generous heart, and the love she shared so freely with her family and all who were blessed to know her.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by her pastor, Fr. Troy Nevins, on August 11, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 1935 Plymouth Avenue SE, Grand Rapids, Michigan with visitation one hour prior. A luncheon will immediately follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Killgoar Educational Foundation through Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish.

We were so blessed to have John and Lou and their family as very special friends.
We have countless memories of sharing both good times and painful times with them through the years. Our travels, especially to the Holy Land and to Rome and Assisi were the highlights of our times together. As much as we all will miss Lou now, we smile through our tears knowing that she and John are reunited and complete again, gazing on the awesome face of Jesus. God’s peace, dear friend.

Lou was a bright light and modeled the best way to be a Catholic woman. She always reached, heard and saw her community. She was a very special friend to me for more than forty years. She enriched my life and I know I can pray to her for intercession and prayer back. God bless her family and dear friends as thy grieve the loss of her earthly presence.
My family and I have very fond memories of Lou and John who were our neighbors for many years in Grand Rapids. Lou was one of the first to welcome our family when we moved into the neighborhood from Indiana and Terry worked with John at Saint Mary’s Hospital. She was always gracious and smiling and stayed in touch with us even after we moved to CA up until very recently- always with a message of hope and love. Our sincerest condolences to Lou’s family as they take comfort in knowing she’s to be welcomed in the loving arms of the Lord.

Marylou was one of the first people to welcome my mother into Beacon Hill as her new neighbor. She was kind, inclusive and spry!! She held my hand when my mom was ill and told me she was praying. May I Return the favor and pray for your children now. God bless you! Rest in peace!
