Mary Kathleen Wilcox

Mary Kathleen Wilcox, age 92 lifelong resident of Grand Rapids, passed away January 5, 2025. She was preceded in death by her husband, Douglas; grandson, Andrew Osborn; and by her siblings. Mary is survived by her children, Steve Wilcox, Sharon Osborn, Susan Jones, Elizabeth (LeRoy) Schwandt, Theresa Vredeveld (Joseph Schmidt); grandchildren, Nathan (Chandra) Osborn, T.J. (Heidi) Osborn, Brandon Jones (Becky Dykema), Amber (Michael) Sabat, Lindsey (Melissa) Starks, Katie (Austin) Lavesque, Beckie Meggie, Jamie Leigh, Christopher Schwandt, Emily (Justin) Ritz, Monica Block, Jacqueline (Doug) Buskard, Samatha (Reggie) Bailey; 26 great grandchildren; 1 great-great granddaughter; and many nieces and nephews. Mary was a devout Catholic woman, who held a deep faith for her Savior. She made many close friendships in elementary school at St. Andrews Elementary and Catholic Central High School; friendships that lasted for over 82 years. Mary was an avid Detroit Lions fan, and enjoyed cheering on U of M, and Notre Dame football as well. In her spare time, she liked to golf and was very proud of her hole-in-one. She volunteered in her church community and actively participated in her neighborhood watch program. Above all the cherished time spent with her family. The family would like to give a special thank you to Emmanuel Hospice, especially Julie and Sister Maria, for their loving care of Mom. Also, a special thank you to Christin Dehen, a devoted caretaker and Joseph Schmidt, for sitting for hours with Mom, watching football, listening to stories, and bringing Communion and the Sunday Press. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10am on Thursday, January 16, 2025, at the Cathedral of St. Andrew, 215 Sheldon Blvd. SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49503, with visitation one hour prior. Rev. Phong Pham presiding. Interment Fort Custer National Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Mary’s name can be made to the Cathedral of St. Andrew.

  3. Sadly Katie has left her earthly home, sad for those left to grieve, but happy for her to be with Doug and others who have gone before. We shared some good times, leaving fond memories. To her family peace and love.
