08/02/2025

Mary Elizabeth Howell passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 2, 2025, at St. Mary’s Hospital (Trinity Health) in Grand Rapids, Michigan—the same hospital where she was born on May 6, 1953, to Mary Lou (Wilson) and Richard “Deac” Howell.

Mary grew up in Grand Rapids and was a proud graduate of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic School and Catholic Central High School, Class of 1971. Early on Mary found her success in sales, where she thrived and found early success.

For the past 12 years, Mary served as the Residential Life Director at The Motherhouse of the Grand Rapids Dominican Congregation—a role that became far more than a job. It was her calling. As a dedicated Dominican Associate, Mary poured her heart into this ministry, and the Dominican community remains deeply grateful for her compassion, commitment, and care.

Mary will be remembered for her kind and gentle nature, her warm presence, and her unmistakable laugh that could light up a room.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Dick Howell; sister, Annie Howell; and several beloved aunts, uncles, and cousins. She is survived by her siblings: Mike Howell, Maureen (Dr. David) Krhovsky, Sharon Howell, and Jim (Tracy) Howell; her niece, Mary (Brian) Hannon; nephews, David Krhovsky, Jr. and Mark (Hailey) Krhovsky; great-nieces and nephews, Luke and Noah Hannon, Esther and Penny Krhovsky; her beloved Aunt Suzy Howell; her cherished Dominican family; and many cousins and lifelong friends.

Family will greet friends and relatives from 4-7pm on Sunday, August 10, 2025, at O’Brien-Eggebeen-Gerst Funeral Home, 3980 Cascade Road SE, Grand Rapids, Michigan 49546. Mass of Christian Burial will take place privately. Interment Woodlawn Cemetery.
