Mary E. Norton DeWildt, (nee Schmitt), age 97 of Grand Rapids passed away Wednesday, March 1, 2023. Mary was born August 31, 1925. She was preceded in death by husbands, William “Bob” DeWildt, and Jene Norton; grandson, Marc DeWildt; sister, Margaret A. Wiest, and brother-in-law Donald Wiest. She is survived by her children, Robert (Barbara), William (Eileen), Linda (William) Downey, Thomas (Aira), Charles (Lisa), David (Genevieve), John (Nancy), and Steve DeWildt; 23 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and very close friends, Dorothy Whynott, Carol Nickels and Mary Nelson. Mary graduated from Catholic Central High School and Mercy Central School of Nursing. She was a homemaker and later she pursued her nursing career. Visitation will be held Friday, March 10, 2023, from 6-8pm at O’Brien-Eggebeen-Gerst Chapel, 3980 Cascade Rd. SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49546 with Rosary service at 7:30pm and 10:00-11:00am at Immaculate Heart of Mary. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00am Saturday, March 11, 2023, at Immaculate Heart of Mary, 1935 Plymouth Ave. SE Grand Rapids, MI 49506-4494. Rev. Troy Nevins, presiding.
