  3. Kirk & family,

I was so sorry to hear about your mom’s passing. Please know how deeply sorry I am for the world’s loss of your mom.

I have always been grateful for the kindness both of your parents showed me, especially during the time spent together at the bike races and during that summer you stayed with us in Indy. Being included in your family’s world, even in those small but meaningful ways, meant a great deal to me. Your mom had a special way of staying connected, and I always appreciated her Christmas letters and updates over the years to keep connected even though the races weren’t a thing for us being together. Her messages were thoughtful, personal, and very much her.

I was also thinking of your dad, and how much he and your mom meant together. I know this is a difficult loss layered on top of another.

I feel lucky to have known your mom, and I will always be thankful for the warmth and generosity she showed me.

Thinking of you and your family during this difficult time.

    With sympathy,
    Bilko
