Kathleen Mary Lynn

Kathleen Mary (Whalen) Lynn of Grandville, Michigan passed away peacefully on December 25, 2024. She was reunited on Christmas day with her beloved husband, Grant. She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Florence Whalen; sister, Gail Whalen; brothers-in-law, Robert Kasperlik, Gene Lynn, and Kendall Lynn; and sisters-in-law, Sharon Whalen and Doris Albers.

Kathleen (Kate) will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by her brother, James (Judy) Whalen; sister, Ellen Kasperlik; sisters-in-law, Judy Pacheco and Beverly Lynn; brothers-in-law, Daniel (Donna) Lynn and Daniel (Margaret) Pierson. Kate shared a special bond with many nieces, nephews, Godchildren, extended family, and her best friend, Louise (David) O’Donnell. Her greatest joy in life was spending time with loved ones. She enjoyed cooking for friends, traveling, and all things Irish. She cherished the time spent and friendships made through her women’s group, Sunday night church group, and weekly dinners after Mass.

After graduating from Catholic Central High School in 1962, she earned her undergraduate degree and Master of Social Work from Michigan State University. Kate was dedicated to helping others in her career as a social worker and fully embraced a life of selflessness and service.

A devout Catholic, Kate was an active member of the Cathedral of Saint Andrew, the Paulist Associates, and the Catholic Information Center. She volunteered at the YWCA, Ronald McDonald House, Switchboard, Habitat for Humanity, and American Red Cross.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Emmanuel Hospice and the wonderful staff at Rivertown Ridge for their compassionate care. Memorial donations may be made in Kate’s honor to the Paulist Fathers or American Red Cross.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at the Cathedral of Saint Andrew, 215 Sheldon Ave SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49503, on Tuesday, December 31, at 10:00 am. Family will receive visitors one hour prior to the Mass. Visitation will be Monday, December 30 from 6-8pm at O’Brien-Eggebeen-Gerst Funeral Home, 3980 Cascade Rd SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49546.
