John H. Elzinga

John H. Elzinga, age 74 of Lowell, passed away October 23, 2024. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Virginia Elzinga; first wife, Bonnie; brother, Bob Elzinga. John is survived by his current wife, Ping Elzinga; daughter, Becky (Peyton Malacinski) Elzinga, sons, C.J (Teresa) Hauck, Nick (Tiffani) Hauck; grandchildren, Ryleigh Wilder, Caleb Hauck, Blake Hauck, Colt Hauck, Evelyn Hauck; brother-in-law, Duane (LeAnne) Baker; sisters-in-law, Norene (Frank) Martin, Kellie (Brian) Shoup, Patty Elzinga; and many nieces and nephews.

John was a graduate of Lowell High School, class of ’68. He went on to work for the state of Michigan for over 30 years as a tax collector. John enjoyed watching sports and rooting for the Tigers, Lions, and MSU Spartans. In his spare time, he enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, bird watching, golfing, or hunting mushrooms he always kept busy. John wintered in Bradington, FL. Above all, he cherished time spent with those he loved.

Family will greet friends and relatives from 11am-12pm on Saturday, October 26, 2024, Roth-Gerst Funeral Home, 305 N. Hudson, Lowell, MI 49331. Interment Oakwood Cemetery, Lowell, Michigan. A Celebration of Life will follow at the Moose Lodge, 320 E Main Street Lowell, MI  49331.

  1. My heart is broken. I with miss our trips up into the smokey mountains, looking for bear and elk and enjoying the nature and beauty. I with miss our card game and talking about sports. What a kind and gentle soul. He loved his family and friends. I wish with all my heart I could be there for my sister, Ping but it isn’t possible. My thoughts and prayers are with our family. Love and hugs to our family. R.I.P John. I will see you again on GOD’S golden shores.

  4. Thoughts and prayer for the family and friends !! I never forget how to Shuck perch thanks to him and RT !! I never seen so many perch LoL !! I never forget all those swamps we ran or the deer drives with him and RT in the boat!! Hardly ever seen rabbit get by him !!! lol. Fly high my friend !! Thanks for all the laught and the hunting and fish memories!! God bless !!!

  6. Becky, I am so sorry to hear about Dad’s passing. Fritz loved him dearly. I pray God gives you comfort and peace during this difficult time.

  17. John will be missed by his Florida golf group. We will miss his social hours. his humor and most of all his friendship. We know he will be watching his Spartans and probably drinking a Vernon’s ginger ale. Rest in peace my friend
